It is really a photo essay on the power of the prayer flag, which historically and presently has been used as a broadcast system for prayers, blessings, mantra, intention. It was recently explained to me that the wind carries the vibration of whatever is “in” or “on” the flag. I had the blessing of visiting prayer flag forests in northern India several times over the last 5 years. It is a gorgeous and deeply emotional experience. I also had the blessing of teaching high school students the art of tie dyeing which they took to like a fish to water. I swear they could have done that and nothing else for the entire year and been completely content. They reached deep meditative states in the process of folding, tie-ing, clamping, rubber banding, dipping, dye-ing and then when they opened their fabric….audible “OOOOHS” and “AAHHS”. Then came the process of hanging them to dry. This was a sacred moment and you could feel the love and the peace as they opened up the “flags” to the wind. Their free creative expression is their prayer. Both the prayer flags in India and the tie dyed “prayer flags” in downtown LA have a similar effect. Bob Dylan wrote “Blowing in the Wind” in the 60’s and the problems in the world toady are much the same now as they were then. The solution is the broadcasted prayer of love, peace and freedom of creative expression blowing in the wind. Sat Nam
